The Petrified Forest

Hi Everyone:

The Painted Desert & Petrified Forest are in the same National Park. I had so many pictures that I had to separate them in two posts.

Over 225 million years ago Arizona was in the same location that Panama is now. Arizona was a tropical forest. a great flood swept the forest away. The trees eventually sank and over millions of years sediment covered the trees. As the earth's continents formed to what they are today and uplifting occurred, millions of years of erosion is now exposing the petrified trees. These trees have been transformed to agate, Jasper and many other gemstones.
