Kings Canyon National Park

Hi Everyone:

This post covers what Barb & I have seen & done on Tuesday & Wednesday in Kings Canyon National Park. Like the other National Parks we have visited, this one is beautiful beyond explanation.

The middle & south forks of the Kings River steadely scoured & reshaped this canyon, one of the deepest in North America. However, this was a shallow sea in the Jurasic Period where plants & animals were burried into the sand. A volcanic wave at the edge of the continental plate lifted this prehistoric seafloor. Magma pushed upward, solifiding into granite domes. Glacers scraped & polished the granite domes over 15,000 years ago. As the glacers retreated, water & wind eroded the canyon walls.
