Canyon De Chelly

Hi Everyone:

Barb & I took a day trip today to Canyon De Chelly National Monument. This is in Arizona about 100 miles north west of Gallup NM. Our round trip there & back was 250 miles. It was really tough to pick out the picture of the day. Every view is just fantastic. This view is Spider Rock. At this location the canyon floor is 1,000 feet below the rim. Spider Rock rises 800 feet above the floor of the canyon.

If you look closely in some of the pictures you can see ruins of Ancestral Puebloan people cave dwelings. They lived here until approximately the twelfth century. The ruins in the 13th picture is called Mummy Cave. Two mummys were discovered here dated from that time period.

As the day progressed and the sun set lower the shadows in the canyon made for some great photography.
