Capitol Reef National Park, Utah - Day 2

Hi Everyone:

Our second day in Capitol Reef was June 25 th. It's hard to believe this was almost two months ago. Barb & I have visited a lot of National Parks since then.

This was a really fun day. We hiked a three mile trail in a dry wash bed called "Grand Wash". This wash is dry most of the time except during snow melts or during thunder storms, when it becomes a raging torrent. The canyon is narrow during most of the trail so it is advised not to hike here if there is a possibility of any storms. A sudden storm can send a flash flood down the canyon unexpectedly. Fortunately it was a beautiful sunny day along with the spectacular views, also rather hot. This hike took up the majority of the day since it is on the far side of the Park from where we are staying. Sometimes traveling through the Park can be very time consuming.

A lot of unique rock formations & shapes most of which were caused by flowing water.

Canyon starting to narrow. Really nice.

Sometimes you get that feeling of just being so tiny.
Rushing water undercuts the rock around the bends.

Taking a break in the shade of an undercut.

Interesting layers in the rock.

Ah, that cool rock feels so good on my hot back.
My view of the canyon wall while laying on my back.

Back on the trail.
Roots growing in the rock.
View from inside a small cave looking out.
End of the "Grand Wash" Trail.
Some of the dome formations resembling the Capitol Building.
